Commissions

I have been undertaking commissions for individuals for well over fifteen years and usually have a number in progress. There is a consistent demand for Doctor Who related subjects but I also welcome enquiries about other areas, be it works of the imagination or other propositions. I am well known through my Doctor Who work for my portraiture and ability to capture likenesses. Amongst subjects to date are Doctor Who, Narnia, Jon Pertwee, The Box of Delights, Blakes 7, Dan Dare, portraits and other genres. I am of course well known for my portraiture and ability to capture likenesses.

Shada Target Books style : Acrylics

Each is given the same attention as a professional commission. You might want an acrylic painting on rigid art board or a line or pencil drawing on paper or board. My pencil art in lead or coloured pencils have been very popular with dozens completed over the past few years. I find it it the most natural way to work. Where a special request demands it, these materials may change, as for example the Cloven Hoof pub sign featured here which the individual requested it be painted on wood.

Choosing a subject, the form the image should take, can be an exciting process for the commissioner. The only limit is your imagination! You need only look at my gallery to see the breadth of possible subject matter. As a gift for yourself or someone else, it can be something to eagerly anticipate or the ultimate surprise, a totally personal creation that will last a lifetime.

While I maintain final creative control, your input is important. From my experience the commissioner gets a real buzz from this part of the process. As a gift to yourself or someone else, it can be something to eagerly anticipate or the ultimate surprise, a totally personal creation that will last a lifetime. At the end of the process, the client receives a unique, signed Andrew Skilleter original, personal to him or her.  An original backed up by a long established reputation across many genres that is highly likely to maintain and possibly increase, its value.

While most prefer a straightforward painting of a favoured subject matter, you may like include elements personal to you or to the person for whom the piece is intended; friends, family, loved ones, your house, musical passions, pets, a favourite location, to celebrate an event or anniversary – there’s no limit. Even hand lettering can be included. You or your recipient can be transported into a wondrous fantasy or futuristic landscape. These could all be incorporated within the genre you love. You or your recipient can be transported into a wondrous fantasy or futuristic landscape. Or you might prefer a portrait blended with the subject matter of your choice. A specially themed commission can also be a major asset for any professional and business premises too.

Prices range from under £100 for a simple drawing to £1,000 plus for a large complex acrylic painting and everything in-between, which is why each commission is priced individually depending on content and size, so don’t be put off.

So how does it all work?
You simply contact me, with no obligation to proceed, with your idea and a guide as to the size you have in mind together with any questions and special requirements. You may have a very definite idea or a vague notion - it doesn’t matter. I still give my input and make suggestions to help you arrive at the best solution. Some individuals prefer to give me just the subject matter and leave it to me. As the artist, my creative input is what transforms a concept into a striking image. I will then give a price for you to consider. Once agreed, I usually request a non-refundable 50% deposit, the balance payable on completion and approval prior to delivery.
I will draw up one or more visuals for you to consider and once agreed, an approximate delivery date is finalised. I send you a scan or photograph of the completed work if required prior to final payment Payment can be made by card via the secure payment system on this site or by cheque.

Finally, I personally pack the commission securely with rigid packaging and send it insured, signed for, delivery, here or abroad. I’ve never had a work arrived damaged or lost. It might be possible to personally pick up the work.

The copyright and usage of the image remains with the artist unless otherwise negotiated.

Testimonials

Well I just want to say, I honestly love every part of the painting.  I don’t know if I am biased but I do think it’s fantastic in every way.  I am very proud to own it.  And I guarantee, I will never sell it on. THANK YOU.

Andrew is not only an artist and a professional but a gentleman too.   Commissioned artwork is completed on time and there is excellent communication with the client in terms of roughs and updates when appropriate.  The finished artwork is top quality and brilliantly detailed.

I have known Andrew and admired his work for over twenty five years.   In addition to having his printed work on products – books, videos, CDs, calendars and posters – I have a large collection of original paintings, mostly Doctor Who related, but also including Sherlock Holmes, Biggles, Journey Into Space and Worzel Gummidge.

Andrew’s ability to capture the various facial expressions of actors was what first endeared his work to me, but I soon began to appreciate his skills in depicting and developing a scene or the elements of story.  He has now done a few private commissions for me and this has given me an insight into his methods, as he has taken my original ideas and developed them through pencil roughs and discussions between us.  There is an enormous thrill when you see your idea transformed into a wonderful painting.

‘The Ultimate Invasion’ has been the biggest project to date, between 2003 and 2004, as Andrew evolved my ambitious concept of bringing my three ‘favourite’ villains – the Mekon, Davros and Darth Vader – together in an unlikely co-operation – with ideas of his own – into a remarkable and stunning painting.

The pencil drawing is such a treat. I’m very pleased to be able to say I now own a hand drawn Andrew Skilleter picture. A long time wish I didn’t think I could ever afford.
Thanks for making it possible.”  (Remarque Edition) : Richard Briggs (USA) www.richardwho.com
